If you has no clue on how to get to Phnom Penh from Siem Reap, you are at the right place. Or, you know you want to go by bus but looking for a recommended bus company, you are at the right place too. Because we are going to share our bus experience from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh. For those who doesn’t know, you can get to Phnom Penh by bus/boat/private car from Siem Reap. We personally think bus is the most convenient and safer way. Among all the bus companies, we have chosend Giant Ibis, the No. 1 bus in Cambodia (which we do not know until our local Cambodian friends told us).
No matter where you are going, always remember “SAFETY” is the main concern, while “COMFORT” is the second; especially if you are going to spend hours on that transport. FYI, there are at least 7 hours needed if you are taking bus from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh. A trustworthy bus company is really important to keep us safely arriving the destination and we could take a good rest during the journey. We have read numerous reviews and recommendations and learned that Giant Ibis is the best of the best. Hence, we eventually booked Giant Ibis bus tickets online.
Why Giant Ibis?
1. Has the safest record of transport company in Cambodia according to the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation.
2. The 1st company to implement 2-driver policy on trips over four hours in order to prevent driver fatigue.
3. Has a team of mechanics to maintain buses on a daily routine.

Excellent right? Well, there are more, which I will explain much clearer below.
As said, we booked the bus tickets through internet. You are highly recommended to do so, not only because it is convenient, but also because you can secure your seat on the selected date. Since Giant Ibis is the best bus company in Cambodia, the bus tickets sold out fast most of the time. Hence, booking your ticket online is the best choice. If you encounter any issue while purchasing ticket, you can send a message to their online customer service rep, they respond pretty fast based on my own experience.
If you have yet booked your accommodation at Siem Reap, you shall take a look on the partnered hotels & hostel of Giant Ibis listed on their website because Giant Ibis provides a complimentary pick up service to passengers who stay at partnered hotels/hostels.
We booked our accommodation before we book our bus tickets. Our hotel is not in the partner list of Giant Ibis. If yours are the same, need not to worry. Most hotels (perhaps all) know Giant Ibis terminal. Tell your hotel and request them to arrange transportation to the terminal the day before you check out.
Note: You are required to check-in at the bus terminal 20 minutes before departure.
Again, SAFETY is our biggest concern. We were lucky enough to see the staff was checking the bus when we reached the terminal. This means a lot to us. At least we know the company does what they are promising to their passengers.
10 minutes before departure, passengers were told to hand over their luggage to the staffs. A tag was given to tie on your bags. And when you reach your destination, you are required to return the tag in order to claim your bags. This is to ensure no one takes the wrong bag when leaving. We were impressed with this act because Giant Ibis is so considerate.
The space between rows is spacious. If you are person who have a pair of long legs, just like Danny, I am sure you will appreciate it because your legs can comfortably stretch your legs easily!
There are also power supply and wifi supply on the bus. You can plug in your electronic devices and surf net during the journey.
Other than 2 drivers on trip, there is also a rep who serve the passengers on board~ He briefed us on safety tips, duration of the trip, and how many stops we will have during the journey, etc. He is friendly and always put a smile his face whenever he talked.
Note: Every passenger will get a complimentary bread and a small bottle of water.
We truly enjoyed the 7-hour bus journey with Giant Ibis, from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh. Thumbs up for their excellent service. I am sure I will choose Giant Ibis again, if I travel to places where Giant Ibis has its bus to, such as Ho Chi Minh City, Kampot, Sihanoukville and Bangkok.
