10 Things You Should Know About Eyelash Extensions Before Getting It

17
I have always been fascinating how will I look like if I got long and curly natural eyelashes. FYI, my natural eyelashes are very thin and short. Sadly to say, it looks nothing even I applied two to three coating of mascara. Hence, when the first time I came across the “Eyelash Extension”, I was little excited meanwhile curious about it. After some thought, I eventually gave it a try recently and here are some tips and thought I have concluded after having my first eyelash extension.

What are Eyelash Extensions?
Eyelash extensions are a method to enhance the thickness and length of our natural eyelashes. False eyelashes will be applied on top of your natural eyelashes to create the most natural look. Basically, it is similar to applying the temporary fake eyelashes; however, eyelash extensions are using semi-permanent glue to stick the false eyelashes.

How long will a set of Eyelash Extensions last? Is it permanent?
As said, eyelash extensions are applied using semi-permanent glue; hence, it is not permanent. It can last for 2 to 3 weeks; following that, you can return to touch up for lasting longer. However, some may last more than the suggested period, depending on individual condition and how one takes care of their eyelash extensions.

How do I choose the pairs that suit me?
There are few materials for eyelash extensions: synthetic, silk and mink. Also, it comes in different sizes from 6mm to 17mm. You can tell the profession what look you would like to create so that they can suggest the sizes and materials for you.

Who should not get Eyelash Extensions?
In general, everyone is suitable to get eyelash extensions. However, if you have very sensitive skin, for example even hazy day will cause your eyes itchy, you are not recommended to undergo eyelash extensions. I would recommend you to consult the profession first before getting eyelash extensions.

How long does it take to apply? Does it hurt to have done?
For my case, it took about 30 minutes to have done and it wasn’t painful at all. However, some people may take up to 1 to 2 hours for application and some may also experience a little stingy feeling when the glue applies on the skin. It depends on the thickness and length of your desired eyelash extensions and also your skin condition.

What should I avoid after eyelash extensions?
Below are few things you must avoid:
DO NOT swim, spa or basically do not get lashes wet for 2 to 4 hours after application.
NO hot steam and sauna.
DO NOT rub your eyes
Avoid oil-based product.

Can I apply eye makeup? How can I remove it?
Yes, you can still apply eye makeup. Some will still apply mascara after eyelash extensions. However, I personally think it is not necessary. You can still use your normal eye makeup remover to remove your makeup; however, do use cotton buds to remove.

Will it damage your natural eyelashes?
Generally, eyelash extensions will not damage your natural eyelashes if it was applied correctly. Do not rub or pull your eyelash extensions. Else, you might also pull off your natural eyelash.

How to make it last longer?
You can touch up every 2 to 3 weeks. And also avoid everything mentioned in “What should I avoid after eyelash extension?”.

How do I take them off? Can I remove it myself?
You can take them off by returning to the centre that you applied eyelash extensions. Yes, you can remove it yourself, ONLY if you have the correct remover and you know how to remove it! If you don’t, I strongly urge you going back to the center. Else, you might pull off your natural eyelashes too. Trust me, it is super duper painful!

Now, I think you have a better understanding on eyelash extensions. So here we go into my real experience of eyelash extensions. Thanks to The Butterfly Project, I was able to try out the eyelash extensions service from Pink Passion.

Located at Sunway Mas, Pink Passion is a profession in eyelash extensions service. You can easily spot their shop because the entire shop is pink! They provide a very cosy ambiance to their customers. BTW, you are encouraged to make an appointment to avoid disappointment.

The beautician of Pink Passion was very professional. They first helped to check the condition of my natural eyelashes. I was told that my front eyelashes were thinner; it might cause my front extensions easier to drop because my natural lashes couldn’t support the extensions.

Despite of that, the profession helped to apply the extensions as good as she can. The lashes were applied one at a time to create the most natural look.
I didn’t experience any pain but a little warm on my eye area when the glue was applied. Nonetheless, the smell of the glue was very pungent. It is similar to the smell of super glue. So, hold you breath if you can. Do no open your eyes until the beautician told you to do so.

The entire process took around 30 minutes. Since it is my first time getting eyelash extensions, Pink Passion told me some basic cares about it. Below are my before and after getting my eyelash extensions done. Apparently, you can see how huge the difference is.

As mentioned, my front eyelashes were thinner, my front extensions dropped the second day. Well, it was not surprise since Pink Passion had told me about that. I returned to touch up after that. This time, it lasted around 2 weeks. Overall, I love how eyelash extensions help me to save my time to apply temporary eyelashes. And also, it makes my eye bigger! Guess every girl loves to have bigger eyes? However, due to my thinner front eyelashes, I would have to think should I get another extension in future. If it lasts shorter than the suggested period, it is quite wasteful, isn’t it?

  1. Long eyelashes really enhance the eyes of people who have them. People who decide to wear extensions will have to be very conscious about rubbing the eyes. Sometimes it is an automatic reflex when eyes get irritated!

  2. I have short and thin. almost barely there eyelashes but I've come to live it em haha. The procedure of putting on fake eyelashes doesn't look that hard or intimidating. So they last for 2 weeks, do they just suddenly fall off or do you remove them before the 2 weeks are up?

  3. Good thing men don't need eye lashes extension. Gosh, I can bear with the pain ever. Just wondering, can you give us 5 reasons why women should try this eyelashes extension. No offence, but I find this stuff quite odd.

  4. I have really short eyelashes therefore I really need eyelash extensions. However, I also have really chinky eyes and some of them irritate it. Perhaps having it done by a professional would be better.

  5. wow, your eyelash extension are really dramatic they look like a pair of falsies! my friend has done it once and she didn't take the glue too well. her eyes got swollen and the skin was all red and blotchy.
